In 2014, the Research Division for Rural Governance was built on the Research Division for Rural Macro Economy formed in 1994 whose predecessor is the Research Division for Rural Macroeconomic Management founded in 1988. Since 2014, it has undertaken 29 projects and accomplished nearly 200 publications, including 5 monographs, 49 core journal papers and 31 policy proposals. It provides a platform for the CASS Advantage Discipline "Rural Development Economics".

Research area: rural development economics.

Research directions: rural public policy, rural governance, rural reform and development, rural public services, and rural grass-roots organizations.
